Join the January 28-Day Morning
Meditation Challenge
We invite you to join us in starting the New Year by establishing or renewing a daily meditation practice. Neuroscience shows that consistency and support are the keys to developing a new habit. Every morning, January 3 - January 30, 7:30 - 8:00 am, experienced AIMC meditators will facilitate an online 28-day meditation program. As set out by Sharon Salzberg in her book, Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation, this will be structured into four distinct weekly themes that incrementally build a foundational mindfulness practice.
Week 1 (Concentration) focuses on stabilizing the mind and cultivating single-pointed focus by using breath awareness as an anchor, gently learning to return to the breath without judgment whenever the mind wanders.
Week 2 (Mindfulness and Body Awareness) expands this awareness from the breath to physical sensations, body scans, and walking meditation, helping practitioners observe thoughts, emotions, and physical feelings as impermanent events without reacting or clinging to them.
Week 3 (Mindfulness with Emotions and Thoughts) addresses emotional and cognitive patterns, teaching meditators to recognize, name, and sit with difficult feelings like anger or anxiety, transforming their relationship to intrusive thought loops.
Week 4 (Lovingkindness) transitions the practice outward through Lovingkindness (metta) meditation, using traditional phrases of goodwill directed first toward oneself, then toward loved ones, neutral individuals, difficult people, and ultimately all living beings to foster deep compassion and interconnectedness.
