Mindful Walking for Peace
Beginning in January 2026, we invite you to join us for Mindful Walking on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in Deepdene Park on North Ponce de Leon Avenue NE in Atlanta.
We will gather at the north end and walk together in the forest, among the trees, on a one-mile out-and-back route, moving silently, slowly, and intentionally. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes and includes rolling hills and one short set of rock stairs. The paths are gravel and dirt.
When: Sundays at 9:30 AM
Where: Deepdene Park, N. Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30307
Duration: approximately 30 minutes
Weather updates: this webpage will be updated by 7:30 AM on Sunday mornings if weather conditions are uncertain.
As we walk, we attune our steps to the rhythm of the breath. This is a time to slow down and tune in—to remember that peace is cultivated through presence. When we slow down, we create the conditions for inner peace to arise.
With each step, we invite the heart to open and soften. Walking mindfully, we connect with the living world around us and touch into the truth that we are not separate from nature or from one another. We walk as one expression of love, letting go of worldly worries and concerns, arriving fully here and now.
For those who wish to join us in person but prefer not to walk, you are warmly invited to rest quietly in contemplation or meditation on the benches at the opening of the forest. This is a fully welcome and respected way to participate, honoring the same intention of presence, care, and peace.
All are welcome. No prior meditation experience is needed.
With bowed hearts, we offer gratitude to the monks of the Chua Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center, who are currently walking—step by mindful step—from Fort Worth to our nation’s capital in the name of peace, accompanied by their faithful companion, Aloka. Their quiet perseverance is a living teaching, reminding us that a peaceful life is not an ideal but a practice, available to each of us in every moment. As we walk together, may we tend the seeds of mindfulness and compassion in our own hearts, and may the peace we cultivate ripple outward—touching all beings, everywhere.
*Weather note: In the event of questionable weather, we will post an update at the top of this page by 7:30 AM on Sunday morning. Please check the website before heading to the forest.
